In the Cenozoic era, the Power Rangers, a group of fighters, pursue the mission of protecting the Zeo Crystal, the source of life on Earth; the group, led by Zordon, is betrayed by one of its members, Rita Repulsa, and therefore the leader, after having hidden the source of the Rangers' powers, the Power Coins, orders the group's ally robot Alpha 5 to send a meteorite to Earth to defeat Rita at the cost of her life and that of the dinosaurs. In the present day, in the American town of Angel Grove, five high school kids find themselves having to attend a punishment course that is held every Saturday. After the course, the five find themselves by chance in the city's quarry where Billy often went with his father, who recently died: during the excavations, the kids find what appears to be a spaceship and the Power Coins, unaware however of what they are. The next day, given the extraordinary abilities they have realized they possess, they return to the place and here they come into contact with Alpha 5 and Zordon, whose consciousness has been inserted by the robot into the ship's matrix, who explain to them the mission for which they have been chosen: to safeguard the Zeo Crystal and stop Rita forever, who has also come back to life after being fished out from the depths of the sea by the ship on which Jason's father works.
