The higher the stakes, the bigger the rewards in Nerve, a thrilling new action thriller set on the streets of New York City. In the film, daredevil amateurs compete in an online social game that uses personal information from online sources to uncover each player’s wildest dreams and deepest fears. Venus “Vee” Delmonico (Emma Roberts) is a shy, modest high school senior who steps out of her rut and signs up for Nerve, a real-time, online, high-octane competition. In the game, thrill-seeking youngsters compete in a series of challenges that quickly escalate from embarrassing challenges to deadly, dangerous contests, while an anonymous community of “spectators” urges them to take action. When Vee begins competing with a mysterious stranger named Ian (Dave Franco), their instant chemistry makes them the instant stars of the game—and the idols of their fans. As the night wears on, Vee becomes increasingly isolated from her longtime friends and risks her life in the hopes of becoming rich and famous. Meanwhile, Vee uncovers more about Ian's past and begins to realize that her family's future is in jeopardy. As the tension grows, the stakes rise, and the possible outcomes are no longer just win or lose, but live or die.
