• Shuffle the ten Power cards (with Maleficent backs) and place them face down in the center of the playing area.
• Turn the top Power card face up.
• Place the Maleficent figure next to the deck.
• Shuffle the Character cards and deal three to each player—you can watch your hand, keep it secret from the other players.
• Place the rest of the deck face down next to the Powers, leaving room for a discard pile.
