Product Description Mitch is an infallible district attorney who has never lost a case. One evening he indulges in a bit of revelry with his colleagues, but decides to drive home anyway; terrified by the police, he ends up running over a man, leaving him on the brink of death, and abandons him after calling an ambulance. It is increasingly rare to witness the explicit disavowal of a work, as in the era of the films directed by Alan Smithee, but Peter Howitt, director of Sliding Doors, adapts the old custom to the present day, choosing to sign with the pseudonym of Peter P. Croudins. It doesn't take much to understand the reasons. After decades of legal thrillers that have invaded small and large screens, it is increasingly difficult to tackle the genre and avoid its clichés: especially without being supported by a substantial screenplay, strong with credible plot twists, and with the aggravating factor of a soundtrack that emphasizes with an insistent crescendo every sequence, often regardless of the filmic context. Once upon a time there was B-series cinema, which made a virtue of necessity, concentrating its efforts on even sensationalist scripts, to comply with the shortcomings of the production. Today, that the scenario has profoundly changed and B-series has been partly replaced by TV series and their boom, something else is asked of the cinema; but none of this other is part of what Reasonable Doubt is able to give. It is easy to imagine how the parable of the lawyer who never loses a case and who has developed an armor of egotistical cynicism will proceed, forced to sink and live the worst of retaliations in order to find himself again.
